We have one of these, and a competitors 2-Cycle gas powered one on my maintenance truck at work. I was so impressed, I bought my own. The string trimmer head leaves a bit to be desired, but it is totally workable! Decent battery life, and a super-strong motor! I am impressed!
This trimmer is amazing. I literally trimmed my camp drive way with 4’ high weeds lots of golden rod and briers that any other brand you would have needed a brush hog attachment. I switched to the .095 line and beat the stuff down with no issues. Love it and ordered the pole saw. Can’t wait. CPO is the best. Quick and the best price around.
I was weedwacking at my parents and my nephew was helping weedwacking. He had a battery operated one as well, just a different brand. When we got done, he was surprised that mine was battery operated. He thought it was my husqvarna gas trimmer. It went through a bunch of weeds with no problems.
I found that this model works great and lasted a long time on one battery. I have read a lot of negative reviews about battery trimmers, but I was very pleased with this one...
We also have the previous 15" version which we like, and this DCST972 seems even stronger. One negative is the handle, and I suggest getting four stainless steel 5mmx40mm bolts and lock nuts to improve how it's connected. The handle slid around so I tightened it a bit more, and it still slid around so I tightened it a bit more, and so on, and then saw that the nuts were digging through the plastic. So I took out the black bolts and threaded 5mmx40mm bolts through the existing nuts and then put lock nuts on the ends, and now the handle doesn't slide around and there's little chance of the nuts pulling through the plastic.
The string trimmer works well and is easy to load line into. The unit is heavier than I expected but that helps in controlling it. I like the concept that I can get other attachments for it. It does chew up batteries quickly especially in High speed mode. A 60V fully charged battery lasts about 20 minutes. So you learn to work quickly. I had the advantage of having several Dewalt 60V 5AH batteries from existing tools and I bought a 3rd party 60V 9AH as a dedicated weed wacker battery. I like that I no longer have to mix gas and put up the smell and the noise of my gas wacker.
Skeptical about battery operated string trimmers, but this definitely handles the job with ease. Amazed at the power that lasts on a full charge for 45-55 minutes. Now looking for more attachments.
I've been on the dewalt trimmers for a while now .. from the 20V versión, 40V and now the flexvolt 60V. I would said the most powerful was the 40 V versión no doubt. It was the heaviest too. Overall I'm satisfied with this 60V versión and Dewalt figure that was better not to run the motor right there directly on the trimmer head which it's in contact with dust and humidity while you are using it .. hopefully that makes this one more durable.
