Fantastic basic computer. Super good desktop and small and easy to lug around
I got my M2 8GB used for really good price. They are tough, small, and easily luggable in backpack. They work well with portable monitors, and technically only need the power cord for the mac, and one USB cable for display for display and power. Or one HDMI cable if you power the display separately. Is as fast, or faster, as most laptops, though the low memory can hurt. However I was able to run latest Mac OS, with Windows 11 in a VM Ware VM on top of that, and still do my work. Both the air intake and the exhaust are in one hole in the back, so you can place in backpack, with back end up, and and run it with the back pack unzipped. These Mini's in general never get hot and it stays super cool in backpack, even running the VMs and work. Very very nice device if you really want a Mac for some special purpose, or maybe even as your only computer, and want to keep the price down. Again, works extremely well with portable display. In my case I got a 18.5 inch 1080p portable which is way bigger than mac book air, for less money overall... by far. And i don't have to worry about risk involved buying bargain Mac Air's used. These Minis stay in good shape their whole life.
My 2015 iMac is maxed out at OS-12. When I downloaded my tax software for 2023, I was told that I would need to upgrade to at least OS-13 next year . . .hmm . . . time to upgrade the hardware, so I can upgrade the software. The Mac Mini was a good choice. Fast, has the new M2 CPU, is running on OS-14, and should be good to go for some years to come. I bought the matched set so as to avoid having to choose all of the necessary components that make up a complete set. Just had to put it together and turn it on. I can now upgrade individual components over time, if I choose to do so.
If only I knew it was only 30% faster then the M1 I wouldn’t get it.
I already have a iMac 24 inch with the M1 and thought this M2 would be more powerful for gaming but I was wrong. It’s only about 30% faster. I tried my emulators and wasn’t please with the results. It’s not fair since they’re no screen, no keyboard, no mouse that it’s $600 but I am glad I got it for $530. The M2 is not that impressive unless you get the M2 Pro or Max then you can game with that power but not that much with the M2 at all. I am glad I have a gaming PC so I’m not left out but here’s hoping if the M3 is as powerful as a RTX 3060 in graphic power.
Last year's model is more than enough for my needs.
Upgraded from a 2011 Mac Mini. Booted up the new one, engaged Bluetooth transfer on both and, in less than 1/2 hour, all data transferred. Able to upgrade to latest OS and browser. Runs much, much faster now. Thinking about updating my old Windows 10 machine to one of these.
I just started working with it and so far it’s great. Came in good condition. Wish it had a keyboard and mouse come with it but otherwise great product and value.
